Designing a WISHBONE Protocol Network Adapter for an Asynchronous Network-on-Chip

چکیده
The Scaling of microchip technologies, from micron to submicron and now to deep sub-micron (DSM) range, has enabled large scale systems-on-chip (SoC). In future deep submicron (DSM) designs, the interconnect effect will definitely dominate performance. Network-on-Chip (NoC) has become a promising solution to bus-based communication infrastructure limitations. NoC designs usually targets Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs), however, the fabrication process costs a lot. Implementing a NoC on an FPGA does not only reduce the cost but also decreases programming and verification cycles. In this paper, an Asynchronous NoC has been implemented on a SPARTAN-3E® device. The NoC supports basic transactions of both widely used on-chip interconnection standards, the Open Core Protocol (OCP) and the WISHBONE Protocol. Although, FPGA devices are synchronous in nature, it has been shown that they can be used to prototype a Global Asynchronous Local Synchronous (GALS) systems, comprising an Asynchronous NoC connecting IP cores operating in different clock domains.

Design and verification of an efficient WISHBONE-based network interface for network on chip
In this paper, a generic asynchronous First In First Out (FIFO) based WISHBONE compatible plug and play Network Interface (NI) for Network on Chip (NoC) is designed and verified. Four different types of encoded asynchronous FIFOs namely binary, Gray, one-hot and Johnson are designed and analyzed. It is found that Gray-code asynchronous FIFO is the best to handle the asynchronous clock domain is...

Wireless network on chip (WiNoC) is one of the promising on-chip interconnection networks for on-chip system architectures. In addition to wired links, these architectures also use wireless links. Using these wireless links makes packets reach destination nodes faster and with less power consumption. These wireless links are provided by wireless interfaces in wireless routers. The WiNoC archite...

Nowadays, faults and failures are increasing especially in complex systems such as Network-on-Chip (NoC) based Systems-on-a-Chip due to the increasing susceptibility and decreasing feature sizes. On the other hand, fault-tolerant routing algorithms have an evident effect on tolerating permanent faults and improving the reliability of a Network-on-Chip based system. Wireless network-on-chip (WiNoC) is considered as a novel approach for designing future multi-core systems. In WiNoCs, wireless routers (WRs) utilize high-bandwidth wireless links to reduce the transmission delay between the long distance nodes. When the network traffic loads increase, a large number of packets will be sent into the wired and wireless links and can...
متن کاملDALD:-Distributed-Asynchronous-Local-Decontamination Algorithm in Arbitrary Graphs
Network environments always can be invaded by intruder agents. In networks where nodes are performing some computations, intruder agents might contaminate some nodes. Therefore, problem of decontaminating a network infected by intruder agents is one of the major problems in these networks. In this paper, we present a distributed asynchronous local algorithm for decontaminating a network. In mos...
